Truth is when you do typical crunches you can cheat. Fool yourself into thinking you're working hard. Yeah on the floor you can use poor form and actually avoid working the muscles you need to work in order to best go about achieving tight abs.

Yet when doing core muscle exercises on a stability ball, you have to focus. Get sloppy with excercise ball excercises and you'll lose your balance. Splat. You fell off the ball.
