The Atkins diet book was written by Robert Atkins, M.D., the founder and medical chair of the Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine in New York City.

More than sixteen million of his bestselling books are in print.


When someone refers to the Atkins diet book they would probably be referring to either Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution or Dr. Atkins' Age-Defying Diet Revolution.

Now Dr. Atkins was a University of Michigan graduate and got his medical degree at Cornell University Medical School. The Atkins Diet would be classified as one of the high protein, low carb diets.

Although Atkins introduced his program in 1972, it didn't really gain popularity until the 1990's. That's when studies proved that the a low carb approach helped dieters lose and maintain weight loss as well as reducing their cholesterol levels.

Inside the Atkins Diet Book

The Atkins diet book can be used by those experienced with the program and newcomers. Although some, like vegetarians, may not benefit from the program.

The book has questionnaires that help readers see the correct food choices.

Charts advise which foods to eat regularly, in moderation, or sparingly.
