Because even if you know how to do the best exercise to flatten tummy, if you do it wrong, or not as well as you might, you're cheating yourself.

Slower Is Better
This isn't a race. And your abs aren't huge muscles. So slower is better. Done like this, for example, with the ubiquitous and ever popular tighten sagging tummy exercises - crunches.
Instead of rushing thru them and probably involving other muscle groups which diminishes the effect, why not go up for a count of one thousand? Hold it for a count of one-thousand, two-thousand three- thousand (3 seconds) and then take another three seconds to lower back down slowly.

This way the muscles will tire much more quickly.

Less Is Better
The best ab workouts like crunches require you only lift to full muscle contraction. Or lifting your upper body about one-third of all the way up. Any more doesn't do any more for you.

Longer Is Better
Progressively increasing the length of workout will ensure that your abs actually get worked rather than just get by with normal effort.

Work your lower abs first with lying leg lifts. Lie on your back and lift your legs 6 inches off the floor and hold for 5 seconds. Then over time gradually increase the duration.

Keep in mind that the best ab workouts are the ones that work your abs best. Which would include proper technique.
