Low Calorie FoodsWith the low carb craze, it seems calories which used to be associated with diets have been left out.
Since one of the reasons you lose weight on low carb diets is because you are reducing a nutrient -- carbs. Which translates into less calories. Besides calories are still an important indicator of weight. Consuming too many calories from a food group which may or may not be a carb will still mean weight gain. Which is to say Low Carb Doesn't Always Mean Low CalorieFor instance some low carb foods can still be high in calories and fat. For instance fried and baked chicken breasts are low carb, but the fried chicken has more calories and fat.More saturated fat means clogged arteries. It's not only about omitting one type of food - carbs. It's also about how many calories you consume versus how many you burn and the quality of the calories. Of course the other extreme isn't good either. Meaning don't become so obsessed with carbs that you don't consume calories, from low calorie foods or not, consistent with the energy you burn physically.
