The Pilates workout was initially developed about ninety years ago by Joseph Hubertus Pilates.

Of Greek and German heritage, he had many childhood illnesses and used exercise to build himself up. He worked in a hospital, and his patients did very well with his exercises. He and his wife started a studio for show business people and anyone else. He invented tools that would help build strength and core stability.
